“I Have Developed a Callus”

By admin

I have been traveling extensively over the past few weeks and as I was driving yesterday I noticed that I have developed a callus on two of my fingers. I began to wonder what has caused this physical blemish and determined that the extensive moving and friction of my fingers across the steering wheel has caused this to develop.

A Callus is a thickened and hardened part of the skin or soft tissue, especially in an area that has been subjected to friction.

I don’t believe that calluses are a medical issue but they are uncomfortable and an external sign of what I have been through. When I looked up the definition I was intrigued to see the “subjected to friction”.

Many of us develop calluses on our heart and emotions. Not physical calluses but spiritual and emotional calluses. We often times experience friction when we deal with others and if this friction is continued over an extended period of time it can lead to calluses in our lives. These calluses may not threaten your life but it can cause discomfort and an outward sign of your experience.

The other thing that calluses do is that when you come in contact with others it causes an unpleasant experience. When I shake hands with other people that have calluses I can feel the hardness as their hands connect with mine. If my hands are smooth and your hands are callused then it can render a unpleasant experience between the exchange. So when your heart and emotions are callused it has the potential to render an unpleasant experience with others you come in contact with.

Well as I close, the good news is that callus’ are not permanent and can be fixed if you apply the right ointment and medicine. There are such products known as “Callus Removers”. If you work to reduce the friction and apply ointment that will soothe the area, you can reverse the callus that you have developed. I know that to reverse the calluses in my life, I just need to apply love, kindness, forgiveness, patience and understanding. But most of all I need to apply Christ and he can turn it around for me.
