Even the smallest, most restless creatures find safety in God’s house. Sparrows—deemed worthless—nest near His altar. Swallows, always flitting, finally rest there. The temple isn’t for the polished or perfect but for the worn, the wandering, the ones society overlooks. In His house, the “unworthy” are crowned with purpose. If birds find shelter there, how much more can broken people find healing?

Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young; even thine altars, O Lord of hosts, my King, and my God.
(Psalm 84:3, KJV)

Day 2: Gifts Left at the Altar

A worshiper walks toward Jerusalem’s temple with a lamb. He remembers owing reparations to Levi, the neighbor he cheated. Jesus’ command stops him mid-step: “Leave your gift. First, go reconcile.” The bleating lamb waits by cold altar stones as the man retraces fifteen miles home.

God prioritizes restored relationships over religious rituals. Unresolved conflict defiles offerings. The cross reconciles vertically; disciples must pursue horizontal peace.

You’ve brought songs, tithes, and prayers while withholding forgiveness. What sacrifice sits abandoned today because reconciliation feels costly?

“Therefore if you present your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar. First go be reconciled to your brother, and then come present your gift.”
(Matthew 5:23-24, Lexham English Bible)

Prayer: Confess three barriers keeping you from initiating reconciliation with one specific person.

Day 1: Returning to the Altar for Holy Ghost Power

There is a strength that comes only when you get down on your knees and seek the Lord. You might remember a time long ago when people would tarry at the altar until they felt the Holy Ghost power. Life has a way of bringing you through difficult situations, but you do not have to face them in your own strength. When you go back to that place of prayer, you find the grace and mercy that have kept you standing this far. It is a moment to tell God “thank you” for everything He has already brought you through.

Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Reflection: When you look back at the “stuff” God has already brought you through, what is one specific victory that reminds you why it’s worth returning to your knees in prayer today?
